Barbados Introduction (Hook) Body Image is the perception that a person has of their physical self and the thoughts and feelings that result from that perception. (Bridge) The formation of a body image can be derived from a person's cultural upbringing and geographical region. In regions such as the Caribbean, the climate tends to be warmer, therefore clothing is more open, and more skin is shown. Women of all shapes and sizes must dress a certain way to remain cool. (Thesis)   When I think of Barbados, and the women influencers from this island, many of them have an hourglass shape. There must be a certain body image that women aim to have.

Women's Body Image in Barbados                         My research paper is about how women in Barbados see themselves, and how                             they aspire to look physically. There aren't many issues in Barbados, so a challenge                               of writing this paper was finding credible sources on Barbados. Rihanna is an influencer                     who was born and raised in Barbados and has gone through racial and physical                                     discrimination. I will also be discussing how body image is perceived and advertised.                           Along with how/ whether or not women and young girls are affected by the islands status                     quo. Many women from Barbados seem to have an hourglass figure, so women must aspire                 to have that type of body shape. As time and society changes, body types are being discussed               more in Bar

"Little Cog-burt & Cotton Candy"

Image
"Little Cog-but" by Phyllis Shand Allfrey, and "Cotton Candy" by Dora Alonso are both stories directed towards young women. In "Little Cog-but, the main character being a female was a way for the author to connect towards a women more. The narrative discusses the main character Moira's feelings and thoughts on doing a particular act. Moira refuses to cut her hair for Christmas like everybody else, and her husband doesn't understand why not, because he sees it as a form of patriotism. Her English background derives her feelings towards the act and engaging with the plantation workers as anything more than as a slave. However, by the end of the story she creates a Christmas tree fairy, and is hesitant to give it to a young black boy named Cog-but, and at the end it states "hands (as she now saw, being close to him at last) that would never grow larger or stronger" (Allfrey 11). Moira realizes that she thoug

“Tétiyette and the Devil"

“Tétiyette and the Devil"              This narrative is about a girl named Tetiyette who lives in Guadeloupe. The author conveys to the audience the struggle for her to find a man to marry. This is shown with the discussion of a goat, pig, and devil, who express their desire to marry her.  After getting to know the pig and the goat, she refuses to marry them. The author expresses Tetiyette getting to know someone before committing to them, through the phrase "beautiful of her silver cups"(Cane and Flotsam 1). When she first met the goat and pig, her mother had told her to give them some water, metaphorically speaking, she meant to give them an opportunity to prove themselves. Although, unlike the pig and goat, the devil is described as a good-looking gentleman, and how he is decked out in gold. The devil, however, has been watching Tetiyette and has seen how gullible she is to her parent's approval and

About Me         I am a young student, who is enrolled in high school and college. Young I may be, I've traveled to many places, including Spain, Italy, France, Monaco, London, Amsterdam, Costa Rica, Saint Martin, Jamaica, Nicaragua, and Mexico. I travel in hopes of being able to learn and embrace other cultures, so I can perhaps help people of all nations and colors one day. I plan to become an International doctor because I'd like to make a change and an impact in this world and lifetime. Putting your best into everything you do is something I live by because no one is promised tomorrow. This blog is going to consist of my research on Barbados so I can catalog information to help better understand this culture.
